Paul begins this passage by declaring, “So then, my dear family, we are in debt” (v. 12), but later adds, “You are God’s children” (v. 14). How is this dual status possible? What do we owe to God, and what privileges do we have as His children—heirs of God? What are the differences between life in the flesh and life in the Spirit? And how can a life of suffering lead to a life of glorification?
