Our History
1850: The Methodist Episcopal Church of Yuba City was organized as part of the Feather River Circuit by Rev. Isaac Owens - the first Circuit organized in Northern California. Miss Maria Keeler organized a Sunday School on June 15, 1850, which was the first Sunday School in this section of the State.
1854: The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in 1854 at Second and C Streets, under the guidance of Rev. Morris Evens, Presiding Elder.
1872: A church was built on Yolo Street.
1925: The Forbes Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church was built. The present church is the combined outgrowth of these churches.
1950: Under the leadership of Rev. Bernard Lowry, the congregation moved from Second Street into a new church at 627 "B" Street. In 1951 he was succeeded by Rev. Howard Daulton, and in 1961 Rev. Edgar Nelson became the pastor.
1978: The congregation was bursting at the seams. Led by Rev. Nelson, the church purchased 18 acres for future expansion and construction began at the present location. Using the Fellowship hall as a Worship Center, the first worship service was held in April 1989. Later the construction of the Sanctuary began and was completed. The first worship service was held on Palm Sunday in 1994.
