Encouraging Words

Some encouraging words heard and seen around our congregation lately:

  • From someone who visited from the Conference Office, “Your online worship was easy to find, it creates more first-time visitors. His church found this to be a front door for people to come to service. They would watch for 2-3 weeks and then come to the brick and mortar building. “
  • From one of the adults in service, “I always get something out of the Children's Messages.”
  • Heard at the back door, “Wonderful Hell-Fire.”
  • From one of our Sunday School teachers, "I often pass along your sermon message (to my students) as part of our Sunday School class... Thank you for the simplicity that even young people can understand."
  • From one who appreciated Shannon preaching, "Let him out of the cage more often; he did well!"
  • From one who knows what it means to be part of the FUMC YC family, "I just want to express how grateful [my wife and I] are for the care and guidance [the pastors] provide. It isn't easy for me to always acknowledge when help is needed and thank God that he has placed us in such compassionate hands. Thank you."
  • Heard at the back door, "Rev. Dr. Black, you did surgery on men's souls today."
  • From a congregant, “Thank you! You are amazing pastors, keeping a close eye of your flock and praying without ceasing for each of us”
  • From those helping with the rummage sale, “This is my addiction.” and “I love the teamwork.”
  • From one recovering after receiving special pastoral support in an emergency, “I am so grateful for you coming and spending your time to do this [making me a priority even when it meant changing ministry plans] means a lot to me. "
  • From the DAV pickup guy after the Rummage Sale, "This is great! Thank you for making this an easy pickup. I would ask to come back here to pick up your stuff next time."
  • From ones who are moving cross country, “This church has been so important to us these last 3 years. We will miss you.”
  • From one who attends, “The sermon hit me at just the right time, I was just at the point where I was ready to hear that.”
  • From one at the back door, “I needed to hear it and up my game”
  • From one explaining why they love our first service, "There is a grace and growth that happens in a small church that happens internally that doesn't always happen in a larger church."
  • "Thank you for your... friendship. Remember the very first time I had ever met you? You came to visit me and wound up rescuing me from UC Davis as I was being discharged and really didn't know how I was going to get home. I remember the times you came to talk and visit me at the Fountains... You gave my family and me lasting comfort and peace at my own mother's graveside services so long ago..."

I am sure you have heard and seen other encouraging things. Perhaps you have even been caught sharing some contagious enthusiasm with others. If you have a quote you think would help us live out Hebrews 10, just email it to Pastor Lois at  pastorlois@fumcyubacity.com. Encourage on!

Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.”
